CONSTELLATION PLAYGROUND

Public BBQ

Tucked along Byrnes Street in Rozelle, this fully gated playground delivers a comprehensive experience that puts many inner-city parks to shame. The space sprawls with equipment to exhaust even the most energetic children – trampolines, sand pits with working water pumps, a thrilling flying fox, and climbing apparatus that actually challenges kids. The harbour views provide a scenic backdrop that transforms an ordinary park visit into something special, particularly when planes drift overhead on their airport approach. The BBQ facilities, while basic, are perfectly adequate for family lunch, and the toilets are mercifully clean and accessible. What struck me most was the thoughtful inclusion design – equipment spans various abilities and ages, making it genuinely welcoming for all families. The proximity to the Bay Run adds appeal for adults seeking exercise while children play. Parking proves surprisingly generous for an inner-city location, though the entrance off the busy bike path requires vigilance with small ones. While some equipment shows early signs of wear, the recent redevelopment has created one of Sydney's better family destinations, easily accessible by public transport from the city centre.
